Englefield House

  Location Reading
Berkshire
England
  Telephone 01189 302221
Description Englefield House was built in the Tudor period; substantial additions and alterations were made in the 18th and 19th centuries. Aethulwulf was killed but the Danes’ major push South had been halted. The Queen granted Englefield to her favourite, Sir Francis Walsingham, from whom the present owner, Sir William Benyon is indirectly descended. Thus there have been only two families in ownership since before the Norman conquest and the property has been held by the same family for well over three hundred years. The seven acre garden at Englefield House contains some magnificent specimen trees and is surrounded by a deer park.
Garden details A 1930’s woodland garden and 19th century formal gardens surround the historic house; with deer park, kitchen garden, water garden and other small special gardens.
Directions Near Reading, the house is situated in the extreme north western corner of the square.
